This page covers three music projects of Chris Dubrow: i) Soulscraper 1991-93; ii) Insurge 1994-2000; iii) Blackbreaks 2010s. Songs & clips for all projects are in the playlist below.

Soulscraper formed 1991 in Melbourne. They released several EP CDs of cyberpunk-electro-industrial-techno-rock. Radio stations for alternative music broadcast the tracks "Heard it all before" & "Neo-Anarcho" which were also popular in alternative nightclubs. They toured around the major cities playing live with (then) popular UK artists like Pop Will Eat Itself, Neds Atomic Dustbin, The Shamen and at the first Melbourne Big Day Out festival in 1993. The band split up later that year. Vocalist/guitarist Chris Dubrow went on to form Insurge. Other members formed or played in other notable Australian industrial-goth-electronica bands like Snog, Discordia, Ragewar, Sobriquet & The Crystalline Effect.

Insurge, the most widely known of these projects, formed in 1994 in Sydney. Over the course of six years the band released several EPs and two albums - first via a major label, the second independently - of political industrial-cyberpunk-techno-rock. While signed to a major label they received a lot of airplay on the national Triple J radio station; and numerous TV music shows broadcast their video clips. The "Political Prisoners" song was voted at No. 25 on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 1995; "Speculator" was voted at No. 69 in 1996. The debut album "Power to the Poison People" reached No. 20 in the Australian charts. For several years they toured consistently around Australia (once to New Zealand) including tours with Pop Will Eat Itself and White Zombie. They also played at many festivals such as Alternative Nation (1995), Livid (1996) and the Big Day Out (1996, 1997). The band was discontinued in 2000 though was resumed for occasional gigs in 2009 and toured with Def FX in 2012.

Blackbreaks formed in 2012: an independent project, the core of the band are Chris Dubrow and Kerry Fouke formerly of the electro-rock band Many Machines on Nine (MM9) with an extended group for live shows that includes members from Insurge. They've released several EPs with an album due for release in late 2015-2016.
