Formed in New Zealand in 1977, Mi-Sex (also spelt MiSex) began as an 'oi-punk-rock' styled group who soon transformed into post-punk New Wave ElectroRock at the cutting edge of using synthesizers and futuristic themes in their music; a precursor to the cyberpunk electro-industrial dance rock bands that were to come many years later. They moved to Sydney in 1979 and became one of the Australia's most popular bands for several years, winning several music industry awards. Their best known track, 'Computer Games', charted at number 1 in Australia; no.2 in Canada; no. 2 in Los Angeles; charting in around 20 countries. Other hit singles include: 'People', 'But You Don't Care' & 'Space Race.' They split in 1984 with a final single released in 1985. Vocalist Steve Gilpin died in 1992 from a car accident. The group reformed in 2011 to do live shows with vocalist Steve Balbi formerly of the band Noiseworks; they are regularly playing live gigs at time of writing this in 2014.
