Formed in Sydney 1980, Divinyls were an iconic post-punk new wave rock band. Their 1991 single "I touch myself" reached #1 Australia, #4 in the USA, #10 in the UK; 14 singles went top 50 in Australia. In 2001 "Science Fiction" was rated as one of 'the top 30 Australian songs of all time' by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Vocalist Chrissy Amphlett was one of the most provocative and ground-breaking women in rock-pop music history; gaining widespread attention for her performances, distinctive imagery, confronting poses and props along with her highly accomplished vocals. The core members were Amphlett and guitarist Mark McEntee. The band dissolved in 1996 with a reunion in 2007. Amphlett passed away in 2013.
